Greetings
To All, It has been a long time since I have posted here, my online time seems to be devoted to all things LEGO, and this is the first time I have pulled up Livejournal since my new computer. There are a lot of things going on in my life, but I am still doing well, I am still at Valmont, my LEGO club has had several successful shows, and my basement is slowly becoming organized again after another idiot builder fixing we had to do. Anyhow, I have enjoyed many movies and TV shows as of late: Big Bang Theroy, Venture Brothers, Ironman, Batman - The Dark Knight, and the Terminator Chronicles. Look for more posts in the future. Quick post
To All, Boy, I think I forgot I had this, but I am here. After a rough few months, I am back and Valmont, and very, very happy. I will try to post again in a more frequent manner. I hope all is well with you! | | Friday, January 19th, 2007 | | 5:07 pm |
What a Waste - 3.5 months
To All, My project I have been fighting with ever since I started working on it was canceled this afternoon, due to construction issues. I flew out to Selbyville, Dselaware to start on this project in mid October, and it has been a challenge ever since. I am not sure if I should be happy or sad about this, but c'est la vie dans la ville. At least I don't have to work this weekend now. Status on other things in my life: LEGO - Chad and Tony came over on Saturday, and started sorting - I forgot when you work on bricks, you need to do shape first and then color. Oh well. I have been working so much, I only did a couple of hours sorting since then. I need to sort as much as I can until February, and then start working on this years layouts for NMRA and Brickworld. Tony is coming over tomorrow to work on some stuff, that's always cool! Video Games - I played Star Fox Assault on the Gamecube last night for the first time. Pretty fun blowing up stuff - dialogue is a bit..... flaky, but it is about a talking fox, for pity's sake! I also bought another Gamecube package for a Gameboy player for the Gamecube for all the GBA games I have bought so I can play them a bit easier at home. Now I have two Gamecubes! I am still going to buy a Wii sometime - the PS3 will wait for awhile - I just can't buy a game system for the same price as a new laptop, much less with a new format. When will the day be when we will have a Hard drive type system and forgo all these darn formats?! Family: Lynn's dad finally retired from EDS this week - Thank God in heaven - I have been hearing how "evil" EDS is for the past 16 years. He was still mad, but for what he is getting - he should be VERY happy. TV Shows - I saw the last few episodes of CSI season 5 this week when Heratio (SP?) married Delko's sister - and that whole series of events. Crazy - I do like that show, it is totally unbelievable sometimes (cad drawings of entire cities HA HA HA HA HA HA HA) but still entertaining. On Hot Pursuit, on Court TV, it is a great chase show, if you dig car chases, and not domestic disturbance stuff, like on COPS, this is the show for you. It showed three women police officers getting into trouble with agitated males. The worst was when a 5'-4" woman police officer was trying to subdue a 7'+ man - someone had to help her because she was unable to do so, he just threw her to the ground. Another woman officer was trying to control a naked man outside of a day care center - she tazered the guy, 2 or 3 times, and he still attacked her, and almost got her firearm. It took a bunch of police officers to subdue this guy. While I am all for women in the workplace and the like, something like this seems to tell me something needs to be looked at a bit. Especially when they are alone and don't have backup. I saw some more episodes of Enterprise as well - pretty neat - I do like Captain Archer and the engineer a lot - the Vulcan on board is crazy. I think she makes Tuvok from Voyager look like a Klingon. It is kind of neat showing the past and Earth just starting out. I even like the theme song and the beginning, showing all the history of space travel. Well, that's about it - keep your brick plates handy! Posting from Work - waiting to go home
I have been really quiet on this, mostly due to me being quiet on the internet anyway, outside of my LEGO realms, and even then. The last few months of my life, especially after the Alaskan trip, have been probably the craziest of my life, although it might be a close second to moving from Ann Arbor to South Bend. Here is a recap: My wife, Lynn, started a job at the Kosciosko Community Hospital in Warsaw, Indiana, as a staff pharmacist, who also works in the Kummidin clinic. (Don't ask me how to spell it, I don't know!) sometime in May. After a few days of driving an hour each way to work, she informed me she wants to move closer to Warsaw. So I started the new job hunt to see if I could work closer to Warsaw. In the meantime, Mor/Ryde moved me to another Plant, that being Plant 6, and it was OK, but I was in the midst of the job hunt, and I actually got a job offer shortly after working in Plant 6. I gave my two weeks and left there, and started at Valmont Industries in Plymouth ( http://www.valmont.com/) on June 30th. We also started looking for a house then, wanting a new one, and having a few special LEGO requirements - a walk-out basement namely, or some kind of pole-barn. While we almost bought a repossessed house, we ended up finding a new one, almost done, in Warsaw, with a walkout, and it is nice. I was hoping for a larger basement, but this is fine. Here are some recent pictures of it: http://www.maj.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=118856So we are happy with it, and despite some builder setbacks, we are on our way to moving down here to Warsaw by the end of the month. I will update more later - I have to go home and get to packing more! Scott -- Current Mood: anxiousCurrent Music: Robot Chicken - Disk 2 | | Thursday, March 16th, 2006 | | 1:40 am |
I'm back - Working hard on shows
I have not posted on this much - it is really a combination of having a new job, and even less time online then when I was at Indalex. I am getting ready for our SJVRR show - I am done with modules for the show, now on to some details, hooray! There is a lot happening, I will try to post later! Geeting back to this finally I apologize for not updating this recently - I have had some unexpected items happen in my life, the biggest being fired from my job, for some inane reasons, but I think it was time to move on, anyhow. This past year has been the hardest of my life, and I am ready to start elsewehre. More on that later. Since that time a few weeks ago, I have been doing many things I have not been able to do - most notably, work on my music, get my LEGO collection in some sort of order, and help around the hosue more. So all in all, it isn't too bad. I will be posting more items in the coming days - a lot of things to get off my chest. Take care! Getting Ready for the NMRA Show
Tony and I are working hard on the layout for the LEGO Train Club's layout at the NMRA Convention in Cinncinati, Ohio, coming up in a few weeks. I have spent literally hundreds of dollars on my drop section, mostly having to do with BURPS (Big Ugly Rock Pieces) and Trans-Dark Blue bricks for water, but it is coming together. I will finish it off this weekend, outside of a couple orders I need, but I think I am in pretty good shape. Now I need togo through some train stuff to get that ready. I am excited about this show, even if I had to spend 1,230.00 on my Tahoe's air conditioner since it started dying. : / It will be the BIGGEST show Michiana-LTC has ever been in, hopefully we can have a logo for it too. We shall see. Current Mood: sleepyCurrent Music: Final Fantasy 6 Soundtrack | | 12:20 am |
The Tick is back on TV - Hooray!
I have been an avid fan of the Tick cartoon show since I first saw it back in 1995, 1996? on Saturday morning. I also watched t when it reran on Comedy Central for a time. I did not see the live action one, but I might rent it one day to see if I like it or not. I actually bought a package from Ebay with all the episodes, and Lynn and I went through all my VHS's to get some different episodes of it, but I still longed for a DVD bundle to come out. Fortunately, I saw the other night that the Disney Toon channel is running them, and I have been recording them onto our DVD player. They have splayed some of my favorites already (Out of sequence, drats!) including HEROES, a parody of cops using the parody of superheroes, and The Tick vs. The Uncommon Cold, which is just a hilarious one. I guess it will be the best I can get unless they release it on DVD. I won't hold my breath, however. Episode III Revenge of the Sith thoughts I went to see the movie late on Saturday night, to avoid some of the crowds, but the theater was fairly empty, maybe a quarter filled, so it met my tolerance. We went with Tony and Grace, who stated he never sat in the back before. I like to sit in the very back, or as far back as I can, I don't like people behind me. Anyway, I was fairly surprised at the movie, it was pretty good. I thought it tied up the movies well, and I actually felt bad for Anakin as everyone was trying to make him spy on the others and the like. The Supreme Chancellor was pretty scary when he revealed himself. I actually felt bad when the clone troopers turned against the Jedi, it was sad. The Cartoon Network Clone Wars did a really good job in bridging the two movies. Anyhow, I think it was a really good movie, I think it did tie the first two in a better light, as they had to explain a lot of background about the Republic and Anakina nd the like. And all the talk about the you're either with us or against us is just silly. About every movie with conflict has lines like that, Blade, Star Trek, etc. I laughed when I saw some were mad because Episode III was rated PG-13 - well, of course, did you think Anakin turns into Darth Vadar by ripping off Matress Tags? Vacation - Finally!
Well, the time has finally come, it was a hard 9 months since my boss collapsed and later died, and I have been having to deal with the ramifications ever since. I am finally going on vacation for a week! We are taking a cruise - we will be flying to Orlando and taking a bus to the boat, and cruising around for a few days. I of course, am bringing my laptop, MP3 Player, Gameboy Advance, etc. to make sure I will have something to do, always, but we shall see. I have not been a cruise before, but I am looking forward to it, no piles of drawings to do, no angry salesman, no phone or e-mail! : ) Anyhow, I will post a log and pictures when I return. MP3 Player Update - NIV Bible Finally being uploaded and other items
Back around Christmas, I bought myself two things I have been wanting for awhile, my Creative Nomad Jukebox Plus 60 Gig, and the complete NIV Bible on CD. It has taken my months to rip the 64 CD's to MP3, and then to rename all the files and organize them properly, but I completed it this weekend. I am right now downloading the the MP3's to the Jukebox, and I will begin making playlists of it when it is complete. This will help me to listen to the Bible more, which I have been doing with tapes, and be able to have it anywhere I go. It is pretty cool, I must admit. I can listen to it at work and driving, so I can get my Bible input now better than before. Another milestone for me was getting the Tick Cartoon Show on MP3, I also completed that this weekend. I absolutely love that cartoon, it is probably my favorite one of all time. I think my favorite Tick line is from The Tick vs Pineapple Pokopo, where government agents were inside Author's apartment when they woke up: Author: "Who are you, and what are you doing in my apartment?" Tick: "If you guys are selling insurance, we don't want any." Agent: "We not selling Insurance, Tick, we're from the government." Tick" Ah.... no thanks, we have all the government we need." I think my favorite episode was The Tick vs Education, and others include the Tick Loves Santa, The Tick vs. the uncommon Cold, and The Tick vs. Proto-Clown. I must confess I have not watched the live version, I might rent it or something to see if it is the same caliber or not. I think one of the reasons I love The Incredibles so much is that it reminded me of if the Tick got married. Mr. Incredible reminds me of the Tick as well, in numerous ways. Spoon!!!! Wireless Controllers - Logitech for Playstation 2
Lynn was about to go batty about the wired controllers for our PS2, and I decided to get some wireless ones PSM recommended, since I get that magazine and enjoy it, I used to be bigger into video games, but it is a casual hobby now. I used to have 3 or 4 video game magazines I read. Anyhow, these work great. The battery life is a long time, we played it at least 10 or 12 hours, and the response is really good. It is nice not to have wires, and it plays and feels like the original controllers, so I heartingly recommend them. Back Pains - and Other Pains
One week ago, my lower back was in some pain, while I was at work. I thought it might have something to do with my old chair finally giving up, and using another until my replacement arrived. Anyhow, I worked my usual 12 hours and went home, and got to bed soon after, it was another long, tiring week, and I was planning on having Tony and Grace over again to continue working on the basement. Saturday morning I woke up to horrid pain in my back. It was so bad that I could barely move. I managed to get on the couch and sit down, but the pain was constant, and it was torture to move in a certain way. I managed to fall back asleep, and Lynn came out soon after and asked what was wrong, and I told her. She suggested I go to the doctor, and I called up Tony and said don't come over today, I am in pain. We went to Med Point down the road here, and found out they did not take my insurance, so we had to go to Downtown South Bend, and go to the South bend Clinic. I had Lynn drop me off in front, and I slowly limped to the office. I got my chart, filled it out, and sat in the uncomfortable chairs. I was glad I brought my National Review - it was a 2.5 hour wait. I was in such pain the whole time, it wasn't even funny. Finally they called my name, and we went to the little examination room, and the nurse directed me to the chair, I was not about to hop up on the table they had. The doctor arrived soon after, and gave me some back tests, felt around, and said I strained my back, and she gave me Ibuprofen, Flexoril, and Vicidin, she also said that STRESS might have something to do with it, and I thought, stess? What stress?! : ) We left soon after that, and we drove to Lynn's Osco to get the drugs, and went home. As soon as the drugs started taking affect, I fell asleep for the rest of the night, and didn't get up until 10:30AM the next morning. I stayed on the couch most of the rest of the weekend, trying to take it easy. The first day of work was pretty tough, but I got through it, and I think it is better now. More pain later, I am pretty tired! Current Mood: tiredCurrent Music: Grace Like Rain - Todd Agnew | | Thursday, April 14th, 2005 | | 11:15 am |
Article on President's I-Pod I recently saw this article on the Presidents I-Pod Contents on NRO
First, I think it is pretty neat that the president has one, and it is interesting what he has on there. I was sort of surprised that Michael W. Smith was not on his, the president asked him to sing There She Stands, a song off of Worship Again, it is about 9-11.
I actually e-mailed the author about this, and told her about my contents of my Creative Jukebox, and it was a good couple of e-mails.
Anyway, here is a part of what I wrote:
While I don't have an I-Pod (I don't use Apple products - Steve Jobs annoys me to a great extent and he is a big liberal), I do have a Creative Nomad Zen Ultra 60GB Jukebox and I have uploaded my entire 600+ cd collection to it after a couple months of owning it. I recently made the switch from Minidiscs to this device, and it is really neat. I don't think anyone should feel bad about the contents of their I-Pod or whatever MP3 device, I think most people who have these devices have a range of music. I would say my collection is about 60-70% Christian Music (Michael W. Smith, Carman, Third Day, Rebecca St. James, DC Talk, etc.) and the rest is a mixed lot. I have a large collection of Video Game Music which I have enjoyed for many years, and I have some mostly instrumental movie music that I enjoyed, such as Starship Troopers, Star Wars, and that kind of thing. I also have a large collection of various clips from Rush Limbaugh since I started listening to him in 1996. That is on my Political Best List, which is arranged by timeline, from Bush 41 to the present. However, my big thing lately has been parodies. I have the usual collection of political ones, such as Paul Shanklin, and Paul Silhan, who are both featured on Rush's show and website, I actually found a Christian Parody band as well, called ApologetiX ( http://www.apologetix.com ), and every album Weird Al Yankovic has made. I recently bought some CD's from The Capital Steps, I am not sure if I am going to like them as much, especially if most of them rip up Bush. I actually ended up making a playlist consisting of nothing but original songs and their parodies, the current song count is 369. I either bought and downloaded a good chunk of songs that I normally would not buy, for this list. I got these from either Wal-Mart.com or from various CD's I buy just for this project. As an Example, I bought Gangsta's Paradise by Coolio, because I have three different parodies of it, and the playlist looks like: Gangsta's Paradise - Coolio Algore Paradise - Paul Shanklin Omish Paradise - Weird Al Shepherd's Paradise - ApologetiX That song is the only Coolio song I have, since I don't like gangstas, gansta rap, Coolio, etc. Some other artists I normally stay away from: Sheryl Crow (All I Wanna Do / All I'm Gonna Do - Paul Shanklin singing as Bill Clinton and his second term) Madonna (Like a Virgin / Weird Al Like a Surgeon) I can barely listen to her anyhow Green Day (Basket Case / ApologetiX Casket Place singing about Revelations) Metallica (Enter Sandman / Apologetix Enter Samson about Samson from the Bible) Alanis Morrisette (Hand in My Pocket - Paul Shanklin Hand in Your Pocket - about Bill Clinton) (You Outta Know / ApologetiX You Gotta Go about getting saved by Jesus) Some others include the Beach Boys (I will admit I like the Beach Boys, I have a few CD's already), Van Halen, Simon & Garfunkel, Paul Simon, Smashmouth, Barenaked Ladies, Vanilla Ice, Guns N' Roses, The Beatles, The Who, Led Zeppelin, etc. The worst song I ever bought and downloaded was Last Resort by Papa Roach. It is a horrible song about committing suicide, and I bought only because I liked the parody so much, Life Restored by ApologetiX, it is just a complete 180 degree turn from the original. It is also one of the best redemption songs about Jesus I have ever heard, and it has a edgy beat to it. So, I am sure I am not the only one who has some weird stuff on their MP3 Player, but I figure since it is my entire music collection, I want to make sure I have everything I need to enjoy all of my Best Lists. An interesting Couple of Days - Fried Green Tomatoes, LEGO sorting, Bowling, work?
I spent last Friday night trying to catch up on some drawings - I had some pretty bad floor boards from one of our big customers - but I got one out of two fo them done, and I came home about 10:00PM or so. Lynn was watching What Not to Wear, which is a fun show to watch most of the time, there was an artist on there last week - some interesting clothing choices, mostly thrift stores, but in the end she looked 100% better, I thought. I should talk...... Anyhow, she wanted me to watch a movie with her, Fried Green Tomatoes, and to be honest, I wasn't thrilled with it, but I thought it was a bit better than the Notebook, which had similar themes. The only good point in the film was when the main lady character (played by Kathy Bates) got mad at the grocery store after some young females took her parking spot, and proceeded to hit the Beetle convertible 6 times with her Ford Crown Vic. Anytime a Beetle is destroyed is a good thing. : ) That was until 3:00AM in the morning however. Saturday morning I got up at 8:00AM because I had to get Tony and Grace, they were going to help me clean up the basement and get ready for the next big project. So I got them and drove back home. We started working on things, I was working in my destroyed area of the basement, and Tony concentrated on loose LEGO while Grace sorted brick. Lynn sorted upstairs as there was little room at the time downstairs. Near 4:00PM, we had to leave and go bowling, our church has these Flock ministries, where a group of people from our church Granger Missionary Church get together for a fun activity, and we usually make it, and we met at Park Lane Bowling Alley in Mishawaka. Grace never bowled before, so it was neat to see her play. Lynn actually won the first game, like 101 to 78 to 72 to 56 or something, I got 1 strike, and so did Tony. The second game, I spared the first 4 sets, and then time ran out. But it was a lot of fun anyhow. We went to Pizza hut afterwards and had a good meal, and we went back for more sorting! Lynn drove them back, and we stopped for ice cream at McDonalds, and went to bed soon after. Lynn and I got up on time and went to both Sunday school and Service, and went to Red Lobster for lunch, which was really good, and had a nice afternoon nap, and I went to work Sunday afternoon. After I got home, Lynn and I played X-Men Legends a little while, and went to bed. So, all in all, an interesting weekend. Current Mood: okayCurrent Music: All I Want from Healing Rain - Michael W. A Long Week or 8 Months - but finally, relief
After 8 months of waiting patiently at work, I finally have some help from someone who is working on the floor in our facility. It has been a long time coming. Due to this, I have not been able to be online too much, but it will be better now. I will be working a lot still until I can get caught up, but we are making progress already, so hooray! : ) On the technology front, I decided to try a Belkin Digital FM Transmitter for my Creative Jukebox. I have to say it works well, and am glad I bought it. I used to have a manual tuning one many moons ago, but it never worked well, but this new one is just the ticket. I like it a lot better than the tape adapter I was using. On the LEGO front, I had to turn down a show in Fort Wayne this week, my wife did not want to go, and support for it was low. My good friend Tony, and his wife, Grace, will be coming over on Saturday to help get my LSF (Lego Storage Facility) in order again. We shall see. I did see the new Episode III LEGO sets at Wal-Mart the other day - some neat sets, but I will wait for some clearance sales, though, like usual. I think Episode III will be pretty good though. Anyway, I should be working so see you in the future! Current Mood: relievedCurrent Music: Mannheim Steamroller - Carol of the Bells | | Friday, April 1st, 2005 | | 8:20 pm |
New DVD I got - Star Wars The Clone Wars
I noticed this at Wal-Mart on Monday - I just saw some of the episodes on Cartoon Network on Sunday or Saturday, and wished it was on DVD so I would be able to see it in a big chunk for once, and I got my wish. I think this was a neat idea to show some of the story in-between the movies, because there was a big jump between 1 & 2. I also liked Episode II better, I think the action was cool, I LOVED the hover car chase and the battle at the end. As for the cartoon, I am not through it yet, but it seems pretty neat, I am looking forward to finishing it this weekend. As for the whole Star Wars debate, while I enjoy the whole Star Wars Saga as entertainment, I think I am a little to young to be nastlogic about it. I only saw Return of the Jedi in theatres in 1983?, and I didn't really understand it back then. I have seen all the episodes about 10 or 20 times each by now, and while they are a good movies, I don't really think the first three were all that much better than the current ones. It might be the childhood eyes vs. grownup eyes. I had the same thing happen to Voltron - I thought Voltron was the most awesome thing I ever saw, then I saw it when I was 20 years older, and I just thought, how bad is this! I think George Lucas is still doing the same. I am looking forward to Episode III, and seeing how Darth finally comes to be. I think it will be pretty cool. I hope he hunts down a lot of Jedi's, and has a lot of big space and land battles. Now if only the Cartoon Network could release some Johnny Bravo DVD's, and maybe some The Tick Cartoon DVD's, I would be all set. : ) Current Mood: workingCurrent Music: The Stars and Stripes Forever by Don Marsh Orchestra | | Thursday, March 31st, 2005 | | 5:05 pm |
New ApologetiX CD's came in yesterday - Hooray! One of my favorite Christian bands is ApologetiX, think of the Christian version of Weird Al Yankovic, which I like as well. I just go nuts whenever they get new material out, and yesterday when I got home from work at 10:30PM, I got a package from them. They just released two new albums, one named ApologetiX - Apol-acoustiX, and Isn't Wasn't Ain't Directors Cut. The first one is just the lead singer Jay and guitarist Karl, doing some great songs and them just playing guitars . My favorites are Mediterranean Wholebook News, a parody of Subterranean Homesick Blues by Bob Dylan, and Yes Today, a parody of Yesterday by the Beatles. Isn't Wasn't Ain't Directors Cut is just about the same as the original release, outside of two additional songs, God I Like About You, a parody of What I Like About You by the Romantics and Mrs. Protestant, a parody of Mrs. Robinson by Simon & Garfunkel. Out of the two, I like Mrs. Protestant a little better, as God I Like About You is a little "rough." And yes, I bought the same CD for the two additional songs. That's me. I'm not crazy, just differently-saned. Current Mood: for new music!Current Music: ApologetiX - Apol-acoustiX | | 3:26 pm |
The More Things Change, the more they remain the same....
I was driving in to work this morning, and I was listening to my newly completed America Songs section, a collection of Patriotic and songs having to do with America. I heard Baby Doe from Steve Taylor, Now the Truth Can be Told CD Collection I bought a number of years ago, and with the death of Terri Schivo (SP?) this morning, it is scary how similar both events are, and how much the song relates.
